DISM or Windows Update

0x800f081f

The source files could not be found

Windows cannot find the repair files it needs.

TRY THIS FIRST

Check the Windows component store

Open PowerShell as administrator and paste this command.

Checks for corruption and writes a diagnostic log · Administrator required · Does not repair

PowerShell
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Result: DISM reports whether the component store is healthy, repairable or non-repairable. Let the check finish.

Still not working?

If Windows Update failed and DISM reports repairable corruption, the repair below can try Windows Update as its source. If RestoreHealth already failed with 0x800f081f, repeating it may not help: follow Microsoft's repair-source instructions with media matching your Windows installation.

Only if the check points to corruption

Repairs the Windows component store; may download files. Administrator required. Save work first. There is no simple undo command. If it fails, record the result before trying anything else.

PowerShell
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Check the result: After a successful repair, retry the original operation. A completed scan alone is not a fix.

Choose the entry that matches where the error appeared. A code alone does not identify every cause. Commands are copied for you to review; this page does not run them.
