Performance testing

How do I measure game performance fairly?

A useful performance comparison repeats the same workload under controlled conditions and considers more than average FPS.

QUICK EXPLANATION

Record a repeatable baseline

Use the same game version, scene, route, graphics settings and measurement tool. Note frame time as well as average frame rate and let temperatures and background activity settle.

A single short run can be distorted by loading, shader compilation, background tasks or measurement noise.

Result: Repeated runs in the same scene should be close enough to distinguish a real change from normal variation.

How to check it

Change one setting at a time and record its original value so you can restore it. Do not compare results gathered with different overlays or capture windows as if they were identical.

Check: Repeat the baseline and changed run; keep a change only when the result is consistent and worth the visual or responsiveness trade-off.
