What is an FPS cap?
An FPS cap limits how many frames a game attempts to produce per second.
QUICK EXPLANATION
Use a cap only for a clear reason
A cap can reduce unnecessary rendering or help keep frame delivery steadier, but a cap set too low can make motion less responsive. Results depend on synchronization and game behavior.
A frame-rate cap does not change the monitor's refresh rate.
Result: When the cap is active and the system can meet it, the game's frame rate stays near the selected limit.
How to check it
Try the game's own limiter first and choose a value appropriate to your display and workload. Avoid stacking multiple limiters without understanding which one is active.
Check: Check frame time, tearing and responsiveness in the same scene.
