Gaming performance
What does FPS mean in a game?
FPS means frames per second: how many image frames a game produces or presents each second.
QUICK EXPLANATION
Compare frame rate with display refresh rate
A game's FPS is not the same measurement as a monitor's Hz. Check the game's own performance overlay or a trusted frame-rate counter, and note whether it reports rendered or displayed frames.
More FPS can make motion updates more frequent, but does not by itself guarantee smoother or more responsive play.
Result: A counter near 60 FPS reports about 60 frames per second, subject to the counter's measurement method.
How to check it
Use the same in-game scene and measurement method when comparing settings. Close other overlays if they disagree and check the game's documentation for what its counter measures.
Check: Repeat the measurement in the same scene after changing only one setting.
