What is frame pacing?

Frame pacing describes how evenly a game delivers frames over time.

QUICK EXPLANATION

Look for uneven frame intervals

If frames arrive in a regular rhythm, motion tends to look consistent. A pause followed by several quick frames can feel like stutter even when the average FPS looks high.

Average FPS alone can hide short stalls and inconsistent frame delivery.

Result: A frame-time graph without repeated sharp spikes is one sign of steadier pacing.

How to check it

Check for background downloads, shader compilation, overheating or a repeatable game-specific scene before changing graphics settings. Change one factor at a time.

Check: Replay the same section and compare frame-time behavior, not just the average.
