Gaming responsiveness

What is input latency in gaming?

Input latency is the time between an input and its visible response; it can include the mouse, game, render queue, display and other stages.

QUICK EXPLANATION

Separate responsiveness from frame rate

A higher FPS can shorten the time between frames, but total input-to-display latency depends on the complete system and the game's workload.

A frame-rate counter alone does not measure end-to-end input latency.

Result: A latency measurement needs a tool or supported in-game feature designed to measure latency, not just an FPS overlay.

How to check it

Check whether the game offers a supported latency indicator. NVIDIA Reflex is available only in supported games and hardware configurations; consult the game's settings and vendor documentation.

Check: Compare the same game scene and input method while changing one latency-related setting at a time.
