What is game upscaling?

Game upscaling renders an image at a different resolution and reconstructs or scales it to the output resolution.

QUICK EXPLANATION

Compare image quality as well as frame rate

Upscaling methods differ in how they reconstruct detail and which hardware or games support them. They may improve performance when rendering fewer pixels, but can introduce visual artifacts.

Upscaling is not the same as changing the monitor's refresh rate.

Result: The game may offer several modes with different image-quality and performance trade-offs.

How to check it

Check the game's explanation and the GPU vendor's compatibility information. Start with the recommended or quality-oriented mode and compare a repeatable scene.

Check: Inspect fine details and motion as well as frame time; restore the previous mode if artifacts are distracting.
