What is render scale?
Render scale changes the resolution at which a game draws its 3D scene relative to the output resolution.
QUICK EXPLANATION
Check internal render resolution separately from display resolution
A scale below 100% usually draws fewer pixels before scaling the image up; above 100% draws more. Game menus may define the percentage differently.
Lower render scale can improve performance at the cost of image detail; the result depends on the game and scaling method.
Result: The output may still be sent at the monitor's selected resolution even when the 3D scene is rendered at another size.
How to check it
Read the game's setting description and adjust render scale in small increments. Keep output resolution and other graphics settings fixed for a fair comparison.
Check: Compare the same scene for frame time, text clarity and fine detail.
