What is variable refresh rate (VRR)?

Variable refresh rate (VRR) lets a compatible display vary its refresh timing to better match incoming frames within a supported range.

QUICK EXPLANATION

Check that the whole display path supports VRR

The monitor, graphics hardware, cable or port, driver and game settings can all affect VRR availability. A supported monitor alone does not guarantee that VRR is active.

VRR can reduce tearing and uneven presentation within its supported operating range; behavior outside that range depends on the implementation.

Result: The monitor's on-screen display or graphics settings may indicate when adaptive sync is active.

How to check it

Check the monitor manual for its VRR range and required input. Then review the graphics control panel and Windows display settings for the selected monitor.

Check: Use a compatible game and confirm the monitor or driver reports VRR active during play.
