Performance diagnosis

Why does my game's FPS fluctuate?

Game frame rate can change as the scene, CPU or GPU workload, temperature, power state and background activity change.

QUICK EXPLANATION

Find out whether the drops happen in the same scene

A busy effect, new area, loading event or background task can cause a temporary change. A repeatable drop points to a more useful investigation than a one-off dip.

A changing FPS number is not by itself evidence that hardware is failing.

Result: Frame-time and component-use measurements can help show whether the change is recurring and what was busy.

How to check it

Repeat the same route, note temperatures and background activity, and check for a frame cap or game update. Change one graphics setting only after the pattern is clear.

Check: Retest the same scene and compare frame-time behavior across multiple runs.
