HANKI MAINTAIN

Find what takes up space. Decide what to keep.

Hanki Tools helps you inspect large files, compare duplicate contents and review cleanup of supported personal files. You choose what goes: to the Windows Recycle Bin by default, or deleted permanently only after you confirm.

Find the largest files first

Open Maintain → Files, choose a folder or drive, and use Largest 100 to inspect the biggest files. The summary groups space by file type; name and minimum-size filters help narrow the results.

Start with a location you know, such as your downloads or video exports. A large file may be important, and a file you have not opened recently may still be a needed backup. For a broader starting point, the guided check I'm running out of disk space walks through large files, duplicates and large installed apps.

Compare duplicate contents, not just names

In Maintain → Duplicates, choose Find duplicates in folder… and read the coverage report. Hanki groups candidates by size and SHA-256, then rechecks the selected pair byte-for-byte before recycling.

Choose the specific copy to remove and review both paths. Identical contents do not mean both locations are interchangeable: an application, project or backup may depend on its own copy. Hanki does not automatically select every extra copy for removal.

Review the cleanup and its recovery route

  1. Inspect the selection. Confirm the files are yours to remove and that anything important has a usable backup.
  2. Choose how it goes. Move to Recycle Bin is the default and can be restored; Delete permanently asks you to confirm it can't be undone. Hanki never switches to permanent deletion by itself. Some locations are deliberately refused.
  3. Check what remains. Open the retained file and any project that uses it. Restore a wrongly recycled file through Windows Recycle Bin.
  4. Recheck free space. Recycled files still occupy space. Emptying the Recycle Bin removes that recovery route, so wait until you have verified the result.

Know what the results mean

Reported duplicate sizes are logical file sizes, not guaranteed space savings. Skipped or unreadable files limit scan coverage. An empty duplicate result does not prove the whole PC has no duplicates.

For Windows temporary files and system-managed cleanup, start with Settings → System → Storage. For installed software, Maintain → Apps runs the app's own uninstaller, the same one Windows Settings uses. Take care with cloud-synced folders where a deletion can affect other devices.
