Install, update and remove Hanki

Choose the setup installer or portable ZIP, verify the SHA-256 checksum, get past SmartScreen, update manually and uninstall cleanly.

Requirements

  • 64-bit Windows 11 (x64) is the tested target. ARM64, Windows Server and older Windows releases are not certified.
  • No .NET runtime or SDK is needed: releases are self-contained.
  • A standard Windows account. Some settings and Defender commands need administrator approval, which Hanki asks for only when you choose such an action.

Choose a package

Releases are published on GitHub Releases. Stable releases are tagged vVERSION; previews (release candidates) are tagged vVERSION-preview and marked pre-release.

Neither package installs a service or an auto-start entry.

Verify the checksum

Each file has a matching .sha256 file. Compare it before you open the download:

Get-FileHash .\HankiTools-VERSION-win-x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

SmartScreen and code signing

Hanki is not code-signed yet. Signing through the SignPath Foundation program is pending, so Windows SmartScreen warns before the first run, and Smart App Control can block an unsigned build on protected PCs. Only builds made by GitHub Actions from the public source will be submitted for signing. See the code signing policy.

Use the installer

  1. Run the setup file and choose who to install for: just your account, under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs without administrator approval, or all users, under Program Files with administrator approval.
  2. Start Hanki from the Start menu.

Use the portable ZIP

  1. Extract the entire ZIP to a local folder.
  2. Open HankiTools.exe. Keep the Data folder next to the executable.

Install with Scoop

If you use Scoop, it checks the checksum for you:

scoop bucket add hanki https://github.com/hankitools/scoop-bucket
scoop install hanki/hanki-tools

Update

Hanki does not update itself. Check the release notes, then:

  • Installer: close Hanki and run the newer setup, choosing the same install scope. It replaces the app files.
  • Portable: close Hanki and extract the new package to a new folder. Keep the old one until the new one works.

Your history and recovery data carry over in both cases.

Uninstall

Use Windows Installed apps or the Start menu's uninstall entry, or delete the portable folder. Removing the app does not undo settings and does not delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\IgezziGuard, where history and recovery backups live. Restore any changes you want back first, then delete that folder yourself for a full clean-up. The folder keeps the project's original name for compatibility.
